Seedings are based on the results against teams placed 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the respective groups, not on FIFA World Ranking.

The final 2nd placed table is as follows:

SEEDED
Russia 16
Greece 16
Ukraine 15
France 15
--------
UNSEEDED
Slovenia 14
Bosnia & Herzegovina 13
Portugal 13
Ireland 12
--------
ELIMINATED
Norway 10

So, none of the seeded teams can meet each other and likewise none of the unseeded teams can meet each other.

Every system has its good and bad sides; in both cases Greece is seeded (they are very lucky after being second in the weakest group, but every draw implicates some luck)

Play off:
Portugal - Bosnia & Herzegovina
Republic of Ireland – France
Greece – Ukraine
Russia – Slovenia

I see France, Russia and Ukraine qualifying for the World Cup. I hope Bosnia can make it too, but I fear, that Portugal will qualify with great luck and with their Brazilians (Pepe,Deco, Liedson) Rolling Eyes

another silly comment about Brazilians...
yes, because Bosnia didn't had a Brazilian a few years ago, Italy don't have Argentineans, Spain don't have Argentineans and Brazilians, Germany don't have Polish and Ghanese, etc,

I support Russia, Ukraine and Ireland (France really does not deserve to qualify) ; I cannot chose between Bosnia (first time ever) and Portugal (playing attractive football).............. This is only what I wish...not a prediction

I support Greece because my father is Greek, Russia because my fellow countryman Guus Hiddink coaches them, Ireland because of their very nice supporters and Bosnia so Holland can avoid their bogey team Portugal.

However, I think Ukraine, Russia, France and Portugal will progress. In case of Ireland will progress I hope they will play Holland.

I can see Ireland, Portugal, Russia and the Ukraine making it through to the World Cup. France have being TERRIABLE since they lost the World Cup in 2006. I would be surprised to see them beat a well organised Irish team which also has the skills to put teams to the sword.

I think the likes of Italy, France and to a certain extent Germany have to start clearing there teams as they have too many players who are now past it. Also the think about having Brazilians in the Portugal team is a bit pointless as you have to be a Portugesse citizen to play for Portugal. Even if they have being born in Brazil or are of Brazilian decent they still have lived and became Portugesse citizens which makes them as Portugesse as someone who has come from a family which can trace its roots for hundred of years in Portugal.

Just to say something, that 3 Brazilians do not have Portuguese nationality because they discovered that they had an ancestor that born in Portugal, they have the nationality because they lived here for at least 6 years, which enables any citizen to ask for the nationality.

I wonder how many years living in the country is necessary to ask for citizenship in your country (i'm really curious)

For example i see Roger Guerreiro (Brazilian that plays for Poland) granted citizenship only after 2 years in the country
